I’ve been involved in estate planning, probate and estate litigation since I started practicing as an attorney. Quite frankly, I thought the subject was pretty boring in law school, but that might have been more related to the fact that I didn’t study it until the last semester of my last year.
Estate planning is a very rewarding area of practice, however. Probably the best part is that unlike different types of litigation (“suing people”), estate planning is largely a win-win proposition. My clients normally arrive happy and I make sure that they always leave happier. One of the best aspects of being an estate planning lawyer is that you get to meet a lot of different people and hear about their lives and their families.
It’s a satisfying area of practice and I’m glad I love it because most other areas of law do not interest me.
